Volvo further tinkering with mountaineering on the renewal/expansion of its model lineup. The big boys (S90, V90, XC90) it has successfully established in the market, but what really makes numbers, follows only in the near future. The talk is of the new compact SUVs XC60 and XC40. The successor of the absolute Sweden bestseller XC60 rolls even 2017 in the showrooms. Hardly less important, however, the vehicle may be that these new Erlkönig images show. This is the smaller XC40, a SUV opponent for BMW X 1, Mercedes GLA or Audi Q3, not so far was from Volvo.
As a mini XC90
The world premiere for the smallest Volvo SUV could take place on the Shanghai Auto Show 2017 (21-28 April). Already in may 2016, the Swedes showed the near-series study of 40.1. The latest prototype images now suggest that the appearance of the study is actually pretty close to the final design of the XC40 on it. This development Mule looks like a shrink version of the XC90. You can see a slightly flatter, shorter hood and a lightly bobbed tail. The length of the XC40 should be at 4.40 meters. The focus is on good space in the Interior, as well as a large trunk.
New platform security
The new XC40 is not on the SPA platform scalable product architecture (), the the 90's - and later also take advantage of the 60s models. Instead, he receives the so-called CMA platform (compact modular architecture), also the next V40 will build on that. The new infotainment and the wide range of safety and assistance systems will take over but compact Volvos from their big brothers and sisters.
Also available as plug-in hybrid and electric car

The latter is called T5 twin engine and combine a three-cylinder gasoline engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with a 50 kW electric motor. System performance should be 250 HP, purely on electricity will be probably up to 50 km range in there. The CMA platform is suitable also for pure electric drives. Don't expect a stromernden XC40 but before 2019 or 2020 launch for the new Volvo XC40 is likely to end of 2017 or beginning of 2018. Prices are likely to start at under 30,000 euros. (black & white)
