Not only the Skoda fans can hardly wait for the new Kodiaq. Also the chef himself on fire before confidence: "With him, we search for new ways and new markets," Chief Executive Officer Bernhard Maier says. Well a month before the trade fair debut at the Paris Motor Show (1st to 16th October 2016) fall now the hull of the Kodiaq.
As big as an Octavia
The official photos show a stately SUV: with the Kodiaq is only four centimeters longer than an Octavia 4.70 meters. And he follows a similar concept: the base, namely the modular transverse box of the VW Tiguan, is actually compact class, the space at the Skoda but nevertheless enormously. This is ensured by the wheelbase 2.79 m, in the future also the XL variants of the Tiguan and seat Ateca received. The other dimensions of the Skoda Kodiaq: Width he brings at 1.88 meters and including roof rails to a height of 1.68 meters. Singled out is the weight, with the base engine and front-wheel drive, the Kodiaq weighs 1,452 kilograms.
Sleeps up to seven people
A further Kodiaq focus is on the space. The amount is 104 mm in the rear. On request, there is a third-row seat for two additional passengers, making the Kodiaq of the first seven-seater Skoda. The normal rear seats can be moved to 18 centimeters in length, the backrest tilt is adjustable.
Gigantic trunk
The data on the value of the Kodiaq are of course of particular interest. In the trunk, luggage fit between 720 and 2.065 liters, with optional folding front passenger seat up to 2.80 m long items can be invited. Of course Skoda expects that the Kodiaq as a train car in the truest sense of the word is his followers. In the combination, diesel plus DSG and all-wheel drive pulls away the SUV up to 2.5 tons. Practical: Skoda provides surcharge a trailer manoeuvring Wizard, which reverse the Steering at slower takes over. A system that slows the Kodiaq is detected an obstacle behind the car is just as clever.
A question of perspective
Since we're on the subject of assistance systems: a city emergency braking is active up to 34 km/h, as the multiple collision brake is fitted as standard. A combination of proximity, DSG, and Lane does the work in the viscous flow of traffic, up to 65 km/h, the Kodiaq is kept automatically in the track. Various environment cameras on the car provide different views when manoeuvring or slow speed, including a bird's eye view.
Fully networked
Not only the driver helpers have become an important topic, but also networking. At the Kodiaq, which runs under the term "Skoda Connect": information and navigation in real time with the help of Google, at the same time online vehicle service that helps such as breakdowns, but also with help and advice is available. As standard, the Kodiaq has An infotainment system with 6.5-inch screen on board, are already here AppleCarPlay and Android car possible. Optionally, there are two systems with a eight inch large touch screen and the ultimate Daddy extra: the handsfree microphone records the driver's voice and transmits it through the speakers in the rear to the rear.
Five engines to choose from
For connoisseurs of the Skoda brand, the engine range of the Kodiaq holds few surprises, it is similar to the offer for the superb. Go to the sales start with five units. The two diesels make 150 and 190 HP, version heaves the Kodiaq in 8.6 seconds to 100, is only at 210 km/h. Base engine of the Kodiaq is a 1.4 TSI with 125 HP and 200 nm of torque, the stronger variant with 150 HP offers a cylinder shut-off under partial load. The top gasoline engine with two liters of displacement comes to 180 HP.
A DSG for drives
A first is the seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It is designed for up to 600 Newton metres of torque. A one-way function is also active in eco mode of the optional driving profile selection. The top two engines, so 180 and 190 HP, always delivered with the new DSG and all-wheel drive. The base diesel gets only the seven-speed DSG with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive is available also manual six gears to choose from. There are six gears for the 1.4 TSI engines for the 150 PS version with front-wheel drive only as DSG, with 4 x 4 as a manual transmission. At the 125-HP Kodiaq, we expect a combination of front-wheel drive and manual transmission to keep the price attractive.
Market launch is planned for beginning of 2017
A word about the options: In the offer are an offroad mode for the all-wheel drive Kodiaq, which makes driving in the area in conjunction with the electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch. The adaptive damper control DCC will appear in the price list. Up to 19 inch rims in the program are for optics fetishists. And also a clever Skoda solution is not missing: when the door is opened, a protective strip around the edge of the door clings, Ford already uses a similar system. For every Kodiaq fan is so something, come from beginning 2017 the SUV to the dealer. In the same year, a smaller brother follows also, this replaced the Yeti. (rh)
