New VW Passat: The price question

Barely a week after the world premiere VW launches now already the presale of the new Passat. In November 2014 it will be available in German dealerships. Of interest is the pricing against the background that the manufacturer wants to position the Passat towards the premium segment. Therefore, we look in two directions: as a fine competitor to the BMW 5 Series moves forward, as opposed to the classic Opel Insignia. Basis for comparison is always the popular station wagon version.

Better take Comfortline

Compared to the less popular sedan variant called combination depending on the engine to 1,000 euros more expensive of the new VW Passat. For now, customers have the choice of three engines. Preliminary base model is the 2.0 TDI with 150 hp, which will cost 31 325 euros as a variant in the basic Trendline. For now, the strongest Passat is the bi-turbo TDI with 240 hp, all-wheel drive and seven-speed DSG. He starts at 44.625 EUR for the station wagon.

Cheaper than BMW, more expensive than Opel

Where is the competition? In the case of the BMW 5 Series Touring significantly higher. With also diesel 150 hp, the 518d Touring starts at 42,600 euros, but offers at the factory 17 inch, xenon light and a two-zone climate control. Similarly equipped, the Passat Variant is a saving of just under 8,000 euros. Already looks different from the picture, when the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer comes into play. As a 1.4 Turbo innovation he is with 140 HP ten horsepower less than the Passat TSI and costs 30,210 euros. Xenon, Navi, and automatic climate control are standard here. Not every technique must be

Particularly proud of VW is on the large digital display instead of classical instruments. The " Active Information Display" said system is 650 euros in the price list.
