Also, Skyactiv-X-engine will be presented in Geneva

Leverkusen, 6. February 2018

In the fall of 2017 was seen at the Los Angeles Auto Show the Facelift of the four-door Mazda 6, now the salon (8 at the Geneva auto. to 18. March 2018) the appropriate combination. On the stand, both body variants standing side by side.

Modified apron, beänderter Grill

The Facelift of the Mazda 6 is the most comprehensive since the Start of the current (third) Generation in the year 2013. The visual changes mainly relate to the front bumper, which now looks significantly different, and the "pits grill", which now replaces the cross-slat Grill. While these Changes to the sedan are known, it is from the new Combi-rear-still no picture. The interior receives the same changes as in the four-door. So there are other seats and a new dashboard. The chassis and body structure have also been fundamentally modified what to optimize, dynamics, comfort and noise level. In addition, the electronics will be expanded to offer a 360-degree all-round vision system and a Distance cruise control with traffic jam assistant.

Diesel is now Euro-6d-TEMP-classification

The Diesel and petrol engines have been modified, moreover, the gasoline engines will get cylinder deactivation (as is the CX-5 with 2.5-Liter gasoline engine). All engines meet the new emission standard Euro 6d-TEMP meet now – the Diesel might get an Adblue System. In German trading, the Facelift comes in the summer of 2018.

Kai Concept: Is this the new Mazda 3?

In addition, the concept are vehicles Vision coupe and Kai Concept (both of which are known from the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017). The coupe is a four-door with far to the rear of the suspended cab. The Design relies on a reduced Japanese Aesthetics, in which all unnecessary elements have been removed. The Kai Concept is a compact-class car. Here, Kai is the Japanese word for pioneer is – that, because the study is likely to show elements of the future Mazda 3. In addition, the concept vehicle provides a glimpse of the engine technology, Skyactiv-X.

Skyactiv-X: A "Diesotto" from Mazda

The Skyactiv-X engine is something like a "this is Otto", i.e. a hybrid of a Diesel and a gasoline engine. Mazda describes it as the first gasoline engine with compression ignition. Core is a new combustion method called Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI). An extremely lean fuel-air is ignited by compression of mixture. Although the ignition as in the Diesel by compression, spark plugs are in a role (as in gasoline): The compression is initiated by the spark-induced pressure rise in a controlled manner. In addition, the unit can switch seamlessly to a pure spark-ignition.

The Best of two worlds

So the engine is supposed to offer the Best of two worlds: the wide usable Rev range and the clean exhaust gases of the petrol engine, as well as the superior response and efficiency of a diesel. The consumption should be on average 20 percent lower than the current 2.0-Liter gasoline engine, the torque should be up to 30 percent higher. The first series use of the engine should be done in 2019 – possibly in a new Mazda 3 Generation, because the current one is since 2013 on the market.(sl)
