Finally in its full glory: so is the Skoda Karoq
Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic), 18 may 2017
The SUV segment has grown by 39.4 percent in 2016. If this insane value further increases in the next few years (which we firmly assume), then it will be a not insignificant part of this new colleagues here. We see already miles snakes and tumult-like scenes before Germany's Skoda Auto dealerships. Yes, now it's finally official: say hello to the Bohemian Tiguan, they say hello to the new Skoda Karoq.
Much smaller than the Tiguan
That iconic Yeti is dead and will be replaced by a much more conventional compact SUV, may push some fans before the head. However, the smoother Karoq design will appeal to a much wider audience. We see a good shot Kodiaq on the front seat a lot, Ateca in side view and a modern rear with almost avant-garde rear lights Volvo S90 style. As standard, it rolls on 16 - or 17-inch wheels. Optional, up to 19 inch large logs are feasible. LED headlights are optional from the ambition equipment. 4.38 meters (ten centimeters less than with the Tiguan, 16 centimeters over at the Yeti), the width, the length is 1.84 meters, the height of 1.61 meters. The wheelbase of 2.64 metres not surprisingly shares with the extremely successful Ateca.
Again huge IInnen
Because you could pack at Skoda but even better than all the others, the Karoq will offer even more space inside. Or in the words of our colleague, who was allowed to drive the Karoq advance: "As nearly 1.90 metre seat giant could I walk on rear seats almost." The Czechs do not see class record make it even in the trunk. The Karoq offers 479 to 588 liters thanks to Vario sliding seats (optional) in the Fund. You folding, there are 1,630 litres. To build everything out, the Karoq cave eats up to 1,810 litres. A BMW X 5 can do little better.
For the first time digital instruments
In front there is modern thanks to the latest material from VWs Infotainment modular as in Ateca. The Karoq is fully connected and according to Skoda "always on". Smartphone connection, Wi-Fi, Internet services, an SOS button in the event of an accident, you know. There are touch screens with fine glass depending on your preference and budget in 6.5, 8.0, or 9.2 inches. The latter is now also at Skoda with gesture control. Another Skoda innovation: the "digital instrument panel". So, the Czechs call the digital and freely configurable instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, which you already know from various audis and VWs. Also in terms of assistance systems is the Karoq up to date: he keeps notbremst, distance and track automatically, if necessary, helps with parking, has a traffic jam, a forward-looking pedestrian protection and emergency assist. All-round comfort features heated seats include a steering wheel heater and the typical flood of "Simply smart",-solutions. These include a power liftgate, a pivoting hitch or folding tables with Cup holders in the front seat backs.
115 to 190 HP
Let's get to the oily parts. For the launch, there will be the Karoq with five engines. Four of them are new. Only friend is the 2.0-liter TDI with 150 HP and 340 nm. To 115 HP and 250 NM, as well as a further two-liter diesel come with a 1.6-liter TDI with 190 HP and 400 Newton metres. The diesel consumption lie between 4.4 and 5.3 liter. Two available gasoline engines are hot off the press. There would be a 1.0 liter three-cylinder 115 HP and 200 nm, as well as from the golf facelift known 1.5-liter TSI with cylinder shut-off, 150 HP and 250 Nm. For both versions, Skoda promises needs barely exceeding five litres. All motors are optionally as a six-speed-manual switch, seven-speed double coupler and with front - or all-wheel drive. Only when the 190-Horsepower top diesel series are all-wheel drive and the seven-speed DSG.
With off-road package
The Skoda Karoq makes at least a bit serious at the off-road capability. The ground clearance is 18 centimeters, with the short overhangs the angle be 19.9 degrees front and 27.8 degrees back, the ramp angle is 20.3 degrees. The Adaptive dampers (DCC) on board, there are the driving modes comfort, normal and sport. An additional driving profile selection, you get a bunch of modes and so on concerned with steering, gearbox also. In addition, an off-road mode is offered for all all-wheel Karoqs. He gave the ASR more slippage, the ABS more freedom, makes the electronic differential lock faster and sharper and has a Bergabfahr - and Hill Start assist. Should you really more cross-country drive, the bad way package is recommended with skid plate under the engine and better protection for cables and wires.
Well around 21,000 euros
Skoda, on demand, confirmed that the Karoq slightly over half of the seat Ateca is priced. For the 115-HP base petrol engine with front-wheel drive and manual transmission should be so the 21,000 to 22,000 euros due. Will the market start in the second half of the year, as 2017. (sw)
