Swiss world record blitz
Zurich (Switzerland), 23 June 2016
Briefly, we play a round car Quartet. The acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is Trump: exactly three seconds the Tesla needs model S P90D, 2.9 seconds of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. The new Bugatti Chiron is still faster. He needed only 2.5 seconds. But even he's looking up against the "Grimsel", an electric race car of ETH Zurich and the University of Lucerne.
In a blink to 100
The car accelerated 1.513 seconds 100 on the military airfield in Dübendorf near Zurich. For the record: one point five one three. A number of other shows even better the new world record: less than 30 metres which were at 100 km/h. Thus, the team trumped speech punished the previous world record, which was at 1,779 seconds and was held by the University of Stuttgart.
Monstrous torque
How does this crazy power come from? The vehicle is an electric car "formula student", involving over 500 teams. The "Grimsel" is the fifth car of the Swiss and weighs only 168 kilograms thanks to carbon fibre materials. Four developed hub Motors bring 200HP respectively 1,700 nm of torque on the road by four-wheel drive. A sophisticated traction control regulates the power output on each wheel individually so that the rubber bands not in smoke disappear. (rh)
