The customer sport with touring cars is booming. by 2015, the organizers of the TCR-international series celebrated a thrilling first season. Now also VW on the train of the new racing class jumps up and missed the final race car even equal the GTI logo.
New touring car class
"TCR" is for the vehicles of this class for "Touring Car Racing", translated: touring car racing. 2016 vehicles from Volkswagen, Opel, seat, Honda, Subaru and Alfa Romeo compete in 16 national and international TCR Championships. Flagship is the international series, but also is held "TCR Germany" in Germany. Also, the vehicles can be used in long distance Championships such as, for example, the VLN on the Nübrugring Nordschleife. The regulations provide for only four-door vehicles with front wheel drive and four-cylinder turbo engines. A narrow field is guaranteed, exciting races are inevitable.
Golf and Leon at the same level
The VW's Golf GTI TCR was developed together with seat sport and thanks to the same technique as the Seat Leon TCR MQB platform under which carries 40 centimetres wider carbon and metal dress. A four-cylinder turbo engine with 330 HP ensures driving and 410 nm. Switching is a sequential six-speed gearbox and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Aero parts such as, for example, the carbon rear spoiler are equal parts, which must be used for all TCR cars.
Already sold out
The VW Golf GTI TCR delivered only mid March 2016 to the customer teams, two development cars drove with however already by 2015 in the TCR international. The Liqui moly team Engstler Franz was the debut race at Red Bull ring also recorded a victory. The 20 cars, which has built in VW 2016 for the season, are already all sold out. The price of a Golf GTI TCR is around 110,000 euros. (mf)
