Tesla model S Hypercar level
Palo Alto (United States), 23 August 2016
Year after year Tesla further improved the battery capacity and thus the range of its model S piece by piece. Initially 60 kWh over 75 kWh, it went up to 90 kWh. Thus, the model creates 550 kilometres S according to Tesla. Now extend the battery to 100 kWh.
613 instead of 550 km
In addition to a range that now grows to 550 for the first time on over 600 kilometres exactly 613 km should it be improved and the acceleration of the model S again. As 3.0 seconds from standstill to 100 for an over two tonnes of heavy car was not enough, Tesla is now hunting on Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari. From zero to 100 km/h, model S P100D pass with the Tesla just 2.7 seconds. The Porsche 918 takes a tenth of a second of less for the Sprint, but also something easier. Also the SUV model X benefits from the new batteries, and now creates instead of 489 all 542 kilometers on one charge. The 0-100 time reduced from 3.4 to 2.9 seconds.
Lot of money for a handful of kilometres
Although the prices for a model S P100D are not set yet, who however that ordered a model S P90D "ludicrous" mode with the best acceleration, can equip this with the new battery for approximately 8,900 euros. For an already-manufactured model S P90D, the upgrade costs around 17.800 euros as the "old" batteries must be recycled. A new, equipped to model S with 100 kWh would cost thus measly 136.700 euro. Much money for 60 kilometres more and 0.3 seconds less. (mf)
