How secure is your next car? Test organisation Euro NCAP has undergone four new models of various crash tests. To the deliberate cold deformation of Renault were Scénic, the Kia Niro, the Subaru Levorg and the Toyota Hilux.

Wizards are always important

For his overall rating of up to five stars, Euro NCAP tested now not only the protection of adults and children in the vehicle, but also the availability and reliability of assistance systems. These include about a lane and emergency brake assist system with automatic pedestrians detection.

Double score system

While the Renault Scénic and the Subaru Levorg always five stars, because for them the autonomous emergency braking is standard, stainless steel and Toyota Hilux were performed at the KIA two ratings. Here, the emergency brake is part of an optional security package. The differences can be daunting: without the package, the Toyota reached only three stars, the KIA is four. Both vehicles are five stars with extra assistance. Euro NCAP describes this approach as a "dual rating", is nevertheless Honorable words for the Toyota Hilux. While the advanced security systems are here only optionally available, which but represents a laudable exception in a pickup truck. The detailed crash test results, see the image gallery. (rh)
