Fewer deaths due to weather

Munich, January 2nd, 2017

The number of fatalities has fallen after a forecast of the Automobile Club ADAC in 2016 by 5.2 percent to 3,280 people. That would be a new historical lows since 1950.

The reason for the advance: The weather

The number of fatalities had reached the peak in 1970. Since then has fallen at the beginning of the 1990s continuously until on a small kink and was 2013 3.339 fatalities at their lowest so far. Should the forecast come true, 179 people of less in an accident would have come this year as 2015. The ADAC however not in better technology or greater caution of traffic participation sees the reason for the decline. It was rather on the weather so the Automobile Club,: the bad weather in spring prevented people often, to get back on the bike, or even just to walk on the road. So the number of deaths at the so-called vulnerable road users took off in the first half of the year 2016.

Number of road traffic accidents

And something else to keep in mind: while the number of deaths decreased, the number of people who were injured in the traffic increased. The number of traffic accidents rose by 2.1 percent to 2.57 million. To reduce it, the Auto Club recommends especially modern assistance systems. (sl)
