For the concrete jungle
Cars with an extended wheelbase used to be a thing of the upper class: more legroom and more Prestige for the chauffeur-driven limousine. But now the issue has arrived on the mass market: With the VW Tiguan Allspace, which will soon also be offered in Germany.
Actually, Volkswagen had developed the variant with a long wheelbase, especially for the US and China: Americans want more Luggage space and an optional third bench seat, the Chinese, it is a spacious, rear-sliding second-row seat. About 20 centimeters of length of growth can do both.
As the concept was, to have lifted the European markets, the car could also work here, next to the planned short-Tiguan. Here, he closes the gap between the VW Tiguan and the Touareg, because the big and inexpensive all-terrain VW Atlas cars gives it here.
In the case of test rides in the U.S., we were able to take the local variant thoroughly under the magnifying glass. It is driven by a silent and agile, 135 kW / 184 HP 2.0-Liter TSI engine, which drives through an Eight-speed torque-Converter automatic transmission to the front wheels, or optionally all four wheels. The Americans appreciate the classic agitator, because of the rich, the excessive torque during Start-up; in Europe, instead, dual-clutch transmission and manual switch will be used. And there will be of course smaller petrol engines and the ultra-economical TDI engines, analogous to the short Tiguan.
The VW Tiguan Allspace comes with all-wheel drive is the fifth Generation. This will usually be powered only the front wheels. If slip occurs, a clutch and sends power to the rear axle. The electronic Differential, in turn, can distribute the force to the side.
From the rider's perspective, it is not easy to distinguish the short Tiguan and the VW Tiguan Allspace from each other. The Allspace is a bit heavier and with its long wheelbase, it is even fuller stance on the road. In comparison to other SUV's in the USA, he is sprung rather stiffly, and he shows hardly any body roll – typical of the Tiguan. The Allspace fun, and you can't truly say about any SUV.
Not only the driver has a good laugh, but also in the generously proportioned second row of accommodated passengers. Your bench is just under 10 cm move, you can sit there comfortably and with good Overview. The third-row seat, however, is more suitable for children, after all, but more spacious than in some competing models. By the way, the material quality in the area of the second and third row of seats significantly, of all places, where children like to scratch the plastic leaving.
Only one of the two seats in the third row is needed, it can be folded the other half to the front. And this is highly welcome, because if the third row seat is put to use, behind it there is hardly any room. We have in any case can hardly bring our backpack.
It is built on the VW Tiguan Allspace in the Mexican city of Puebla, and in the USA it is offered at a competitive price: Just 25 345 dollars, the front is the cost-driven entry-level model S, after all, the 17-inch alloy wheels, LED rear lights and a rearview camera. All-wheel drive will cost 1300 dollars extra cost, and for the third seat an additional 500 dollars change hands. At such a cheap cost price, namely less than 23 000 euros, there's hope in this country.
In the competition comparison of the VW Tiguan Allspace shines nevertheless, With its elegantly drawn Form, the lush cut of the interior and the driving dynamic qualities, which are all Tiguan models. (ampnet/jm)
