A lot of power, little juice
Cologne, December 10, 2014
It still sounds a little weird, but it's true: Volvo's entire portfolio will include driven by motors that have no more than four cylinders. And the beginning makes the biggest fish in the pond, the new full-size SUV XC90. How do you want without waiver or a certain frailty? With supercharging and hybridization of course. The best example is equal to the XC90 top model called T8. Volvo has now given the specifications for its plug-in hybrids known and which are ?? at least on the paper ?? pretty impressive. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with supercharger and turbocharger is combined with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. In a perfect combination that guarantees 400 hp and 640 Newton meters and a zero - to-100 - km / h - value of 5.9 seconds. The standard consumption give the Swedes to 2.5 liters. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 59 grams per kilometer.
As many as five driving modes
The XC90 T8 Twin Engine ( its official title is ) drives the petrol engine the front wheels, while the electric motor to the rear axle cares. The system offers no less than five different driving modes: hybrid, Pure, Electric, Power, AWD and Save. The hybrid mode is basically the default and should be the ideal companion in most cases. It automatically determines use and interaction of the power sources ( gasoline engine, electric motor or both) for a very low consumption. In Pure mode the electric motor is left on their own and up to a distance of 40 kilometers. Power mode, however, makes the most of both engines. In AWD mode, all four wheels drive and Save mode, the vehicle stores energy to retrieve them later in purely electric mode. Here the pilot can also take advantage of the internal combustion engine at low battery to charge the battery.
Much cheaper than the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid E
The new Volvo XC90 is in Germany in the early 2015 launch. At the beginning there will be the BMW X5 competitors as D5 with 225 hp diesel from 53,400 euros and as T6 with 306-horsepower gasoline engine for at least 57,700 euros. Also, the T8 is available from launch and from 76,705 euros. By comparison, the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid E - 416 hp and an average fuel consumption of 3.4 liters starts at 82,087 euros . (sw)
