Namesake: No ferryman but a factory driver
Molsheim, November 30 2015
Bugatti continues. At times it was so, the most exclusive luxury brand of VW would because of the austerity program of CEO Matthias Müller to the test. But now the survival of the brand is well secured, because it is officially consecrated by the successor to the Veyron, and he has already a name: Chiron.
Not Charon, but Chiron
People with humanistic education feel reminiscent of the gloomy ferryman of Greek gods, which sets the dead across the river Acheron in order to enter into Hades. But with Charon the car has nothing to do. The " most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive super sports car series in the world " ( so Bugatti ) takes its name from Louis Chiron, a factory driver of the 20s and 30s. He drove a nearly all major victories for the brand.
Descendants makes propaganda for the car
" The specifications for the Chiron can be summed up in one sentence: We make the most noticeably better," says Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer. Even Lydie Barre Chiron, descendant and biographer Louis Chiron is reportedly thrilled. You recently visited the Bugatti headquarters in Molsheim, to inspect the car and can quote is this: " I am sure that Louis Chiron today proud would be that such an exceptional sports car bearing his name and, moreover, represents a brand, with which he combines his greatest successes. "
Exhibition premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2016
The new sports car is currently being demonstrated to selected customers. The response has been excellent, according to Bugatti, over 100 orders have already been received, although the customer could not drive the car. Because even the Chiron is in the final testing phase. Several prototypes are on different continents en route to be coordinated under a variety of road and weather conditions. World premiere of the car then on the upcoming Geneva Motor Show ( 3 to 13 March 2016). One may assume that the power lies beyond the fabled 1,001 hp Veyron, perhaps on the 1,200 hp Supersport variants. One speaks of 1,500 horsepower and as much Newton meters. Equally, the price is probably higher than the 1.3 million euros that have been requested for the Veyron ?? and not even earned a profit . ( sl )
