Five times five

It is often so the station wagon versions known model series: much surprising one design is not. Nevertheless, the loadmaster in the segment of middle and upper middle classes are an important issue. Vehicles such as the BMW 5 series extremely like to choose especially on the German car market as the combined. ERGO is the new 5 Series Touring, a frivolous stragglers by far not just Debuts at the Geneva Motor Show (9 to 19 March 2017).

Almost a Combi-7er

The new edition is the fifth generation of the car published in 1991 for the first time. As even the sedan the upcoming mixes touring design cues of the 7-series and the look of the previous model 5. The reference to the 7 series is true also for another reason: with a length of future 4.94 meters (plus four centimeters) the new 5 Series Touring in regions that were once luxury class sniffs. The width is growing minimally on 1.86 metres, the height by one centimeter on now 1.50 metres. The wheelbase has been stretched to 2.97 metres.

Minimally larger trunk

The boot volume is one without question to the key figures of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. Instead of 560 to 1,700 liters, there are now 570 to 1,700 litres. This is the 5 series but still under the Mercedes E-class T-model, fit into the 640-1,820 liters. The payload is worth mentioning: increases depending on the variant up to 120 kilograms on maximum 730 kilograms. Touring in the ratio of 40:20:40 split backrest that unlock button in the trunk and an electric tailgate opening via knob are standard 5 each. Airy rear axle

According to BMW, the chassis engineering was newly constructed, standard is a rear axle air suspension with automatic level control. A M Sport suspension with a lowering by 10 millimeters in the program, as well as the integral active steering is optional. On request, BMW supplies also offers a M-sport package with other aprons and optional 19-inch beer next to a 10.2-inch touchscreen and Adaptive Headlights with up to 500 meter-wide beam. 20-Inchers are maximum in the program.

Driving almost by itself

Already the 5-Series Sedan is also the touring on the road to automated driving, unless the buyer opens his wallet. The systems provide steering and track management support of the pace up to 210 km/h. The adaptive cruise control with accumulating considered a speed limit that is captured by the camera, the speed is adapted on push of a button on the steering wheel. Another exciting extra is the Einpark remote control. The display key, the 5 Series Touring can be ranked from outside.

Cars-diesel as the basis

BMW has four engines for the 5 Series Touring to the launch in June 2017. Classic 'fleet diesel' is the 190 HP strong 520 d with two liters of displacement. There are 400 nm of maximum torque, acceleration from eight seconds to speed 100 and a peak of 230 km/h. here is a manual six-speed gearbox as standard, the-eight speed automatic transmission standard for the other variants can be ordered optionally.

Porsche-hunting

And other engine options in the new 5 Series Touring looks like for the time being: the 530 d holt 265 Horsepower three-litre capacity. 620 Newton metres, 5.8 seconds to 100 km/h and maximum 250 km/h are the other key data. Here also a four-wheel drive is optionally available. The 540i wears it as standard xDrive with also three litres of engine capacity. It provides 340 HP, 450 nm, 5.1 seconds to 100 km/h and 250 km/h top. Also the 530i is a braked at 250 km/h. Here provide two liters of displacement 252 HP and 350 nm. The Sprint to 100 is done in 6.5 seconds. To the prices of the new 5 Series Touring BMW does not react yet. The sedan was part of the model change to good 2,000 euros more expensive.
