Five right for the four rings
Ingolstadt, December 12, 2014
Five-cylinder engines have a long tradition at Audi. In the '80s they fueled the rally cars, touring cars and production models of the brand. Also, the first RS model, the RS 2 of 1994 had such an engine under the hood. 2009 then the five-cylinder returned and found its way in the TT RS, 2013, followed by the RS Q3. Now arrives the latest development stage of the 2.5 - liter engine in the new RS 3 Sportback.
367 hp and 8.1 liter average fuel consumption
The turbo petrol engine develops 367 hp, which corresponds to a specific power output of 148 hp. The maximum torque of 465 Newton meters is located at 1625-5550 tours. Thus, the intermediate sprint of 60 takes to 100 km / h in fourth gear 4.1 seconds and pass in the fifth passage between 80 and 120km / H, 5.8 seconds. From the state of the 2.5-liter engine catapults the new RS 3 Sportback in 4.3 seconds to 100 km / h. At 250 km / h, the propulsion is then electronically limited, but is optional for an increase to 280 km / h available. And efficiency? Even though this is rather a minor matter in sports models, the Audi will settle on the paper with 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
Transmission and chassis with Audi drive select
The engine passes power through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In this, the lower gears are short and sporty translated, while the seventh gear is long and thus designed consumption-reducing. On the road, the 367 hp yet get the permanent Audi quattro all-wheel drive system. The switching times of the transmission can be by Audi drive select in four different modes change (comfort, auto, dynamic and individual). The RS-Sport suspension is also influenced by the mode choice, unless the optional adaptive damper system with on board. The standard defines the stiffer chassis the compact sports car by 25 millimeters compared to the normal A3 Sportback deeper.
On request with carbon fiber - ceramic
The new A3 flagship ( the S3 Sportback ranks immediately with 300 - hp four-cylinder behind) is fitted as standard with 19-inch aluminum rims. Behind it internally ventilated 370 mm discs are front and rear 310 mm measured retarder. Upon request, the braking system with carbon fiber - ceramic discs can be equipped, a novelty in the compact class.
Body and Exterior Design
