U.S. premiere: WRX and WRX STi

Friedberg/Detroit (United States), 11 January 2017

Two revised models of Subaru, the WRX and its high performance variant WRX STi debut on the this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit (8-22 January 2017). With the facelift, the two compact sport sedans of the Japanese manufacturer were dynamic and powerful. But do the update at the expense of comfort and safety?

More comfort and new technology in the Interior

Inside, passengers take the first row henceforth ranked electrically adjustable Recaro sport seats, in the rear, an armrest can be found with integrated cupholders. To get thicker side Windows, revised door seals, and modifications to the windshield. Measures aimed at this, that the noises invading into the vehicle are reduced to a minimum. Technical improvements? A latest-generation Infotainment system, lots of assistance systems, which gathers under the generic term "Eyesight" Subaru, as well as a head-up display are on board.

Motor, drive, brake

A 2.0 liter four-cylinder Boxer engine with turbocharging and 272 HP. works in the normal WRX (which unfortunately is not offered in Germany) It can be coupled with a manual six speed manual or a CVT transmission. In the top model, the famous 2.5 litre turbo Boxer is used, which is released in the new version for the US market 309 PS. The manual transmission is required here. The power enters via the typical of Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive on all four wheels. The DACION ("driver's control centre differential system"), a Center differential limited slip, which variably distributes the drive moments on front and rear axle, uses henceforth, an electronic control system instead of the electromechanical version of its predecessor. Delay is in the WRX STi with a braking system from Brembo, which consists of perforated discs and a six piston monoblock caliper rear front and a two piston caliper.

Visual changes

Optical changes? Subaru sharpened the front fascia. The grille has been redesigned and is now larger lower air intakes. The LED headlamps were also modernised and now have headlights. The WRX's new 18-inch, the WRX STi parked on stylish 19-inch rims. Otherwise everything is the same and therefore the great design elements such as the scoop on the hood and the big wing on the trunk lid (in the case of the STi) remains.

Launch

The U.S. launch of the two models will take place in the near future. The updated top model Subaru WRX STi rolls is expected in late summer 2017 on the German market. The exact specifications and pricing for the Europe version shall be announced but only at a later date. Currently, the STi in this country produces 300 HP and at least 41.550 euros. (ml)
