Beijing (China), 29 March 2017
After the great Borgward SUV BX7 rolls since 2016 on the streets of Chinese cities, the traditional company, which now is in the hands of a company from China, now the second model on the market brings: the BX5. We have details on the prices and a planned European premiere.
190 HP and 280 NM
The SUV is 4.48 metres long and can optionally be equipped with a fully-variable four-wheel drive. Under the hood is a 1.8 liter turbo gasoline engine with 190 HP and 280 nm. Switching is via a six-speed automatic. An electric version of the BX5 is also planned for the European market.
Visually close to the BX7
Visually, the BX5 much like his big brother BX7, arriving very well on the Chinese market. The Octagon-Grill large Borgward logo is characteristic. Otherwise, the BX5 differs from the basic character not from other SUVs of this size. In the Interior, there is a comprehensive online Infotainment with 8.0-inch screen and Wi-Fi hotspot as standard. Borgward offers six equipment lines for the BX5, in which among other things also a full leather interior, a large glass roof, and a keyless-go system can be found.
The prize question
We come to the crux of the BX5: the price. China will start the SUV at 139.800 Yuan. These are equivalent to about 18,800 euro. For the highest equipment, 180,000 yuan are due so about 24,150 euros. However, we expect Tiguan for the base model in the German market more with positioning between the Kia Sportage and VW. That would mean a starting price between 20,000 and 26,000 euro. The Borgward BX5 come 2019 to Europe. (mf)
