Recently KIA completely has surprised us with the presentation of the new Stinger on the auto show NAIAS in Detroit (8-22 January 2017). A beautiful sports car with performance data, of which one previously only could dream at KIA was almost too good to be true. Now we know with what specifications the Stinger comes to Europe.
New with this: A diesel
Three engines are available to interested customers the choice: in addition to a two-litre turbo petrol engine with 255 HP and a 3.3 liter V6 turbo gasoline with 370 HP, there will be also a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 200 hp. The latter was presented for the first time at a presentation in Milan and will be the best-selling engine in the Stinger according to KIA. So here are a few additional information for all diesel fans: Out of 200 HP, there are 440 Newton metres of torque and Acceleration time of 8.5 seconds to 100. The maximum speed is reached at 225 km/h.
Drive with bite
Also for the Europe model on board: the second generation of the KIA eight speed automatic transmission. Here, first time, Kia sets on a torque converter with centrifugal pendulum, reducing torsional vibrations in the drive train, and is usually more for aircraft and racing to find. Optionally, either the rear or both axles are powered. For the rear-drive versions is also a mechanical limited-slip differential.
M experience in the Stinger
As regards the handling of the Stinger, we can are happy, that ex-BMW-M development chef Albert Biermann has accompanied the development of rides on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and monitored. But also, if the Stinger on the racetrack has been tuned, we expected a fast GT as a thoroughbred performance vehicle such as the BMW M3.
Prices and market launch
The really important data when comes the Stinger because right now and what will it cost KIA has not not unfortunately always still. Therefore, it remains for the time being when the market starts end of 2017. We are excited to see where the Stinger will classify priced. For the top version, it will be probably more than 50,000 euros. (mf)
