Simply skim the jam

Raamsdonksveer (Netherlands), 13 February 2017

The idea is already tempting: instead of spending much time in traffic jams every morning and every night, you could also just over fly. So far, there was however simply no appropriate means of transport, to implement this old dream into reality. That will change now: the PAL-V flying car is ready and will be soon ready for delivery.

Driving and flying

The PAL-V in its form reminiscent of a classic Gyrocopter. These flight units combine the best features of helicopters and small aircraft. In contrast to conventional Gyrokoptern, the PAL-V may participate but also on public roads and is also quite passable drive let. Because the low chassis and the carbon fibre chassis are likely to have a large share. The tricycle suggests similar to such as a Carver one or a can-am Spyder in the curve. Driven is the PAL-V by two Aviation-certified motors.

From the car to the Gyrocopter

Enough to transform the PAL-V from the car to the Gyrocopter, a push of a button. The rotors and tail fold out automatically whether the company parking lot or the airfield. The flying car is once in the air, it can hover thanks to a special helicopter-like technology on the site. Be landed can at every airport and every private land as long as there is a license for it. Landings on a point and starts with a very short start-up are possible thanks to the helicopter technology.

The range is fine

By the way: If one considers the range of the PAL-V, the vehicle is quite suitable for everyday use. Pure driving up to 1,315 km on a single tank are in there with a fuel consumption of 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres. Then the top speed is 160 km/h. Maximum 180 km/h are possible in the air, the travel speed is 140 km/h. Approximately four hours or 500 kilometres can remain the PAL-V in the air. That's enough, for example, for the air route from Munich to Florence. Empty the car Kopter weighs approximately 665 kilograms, maximum take-off weight up to 250 kilos may be invited for a maximum of two passengers more than adequate.

There are two hooks

Everything sounds much too good to be true? Well, there are two small hooks in the PAL-V. The first is that you need a pilots license for the operation of the flying car. The second catch is the price: 499.000 dollars so approximately 470,000 euro are due when order is placed. But we see it as positive: so the air space is at least not soon so clogged as the roads. Also, later also a ' sports ' version of the PAL-V should follow, which almost 200,000 euros will be cheaper. (mf)
