New RS 5 gets Twin-Turbo V6

Geneva, 7 March 2017

Audi (Yes, history is the quattro GmbH) has been pretty time sport, but seven years after the debut of the first generation he is finally here: welcome you with us the brand new Audi RS 5. As the Ingolstädter proud to announce your new BMW M4 opponent reminds 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race cars of great Audi. We are not quite sure, but decide yourself, find an image of the IMSA GTO, in the attached Gallery.

New twin-turbo V6

There are already other things much more important: because for the first time, an Audi RS 5 will have more under the hood a V8 cleaner. Many will find this very unfortunate, but if you are the data of the new 2.9-liter Twin-Turbo V6 (a completely new development, by the way) looks at, it should be over quickly with the anger. Well, with 450 HP performance remains the same, however, the torque increases to 600 Newton metres. 170 Nm are much more than before. And all this nm are already from 1,900 RPM. Also the performance benefit: the new Audi RS 5 sprints in 3.9 seconds 0-100 km/h and optionally creates top of 280 km/h. The predecessor took 4.6 seconds. Also he swallowed 10.8 litres in the cut, the RS 5 2017 to 8.7 litres come out.

60 kilos lighter

Now, one could argue: driving performance and consumption were for most customers sure not the problem on the old car. Rather, he worked first RS 5 a little too hard and never really exciting to drive. At least for a car that carries a RS shield on the back. The new RS 5 could remedy the situation here, finally becoming 60 kilos lighter. Optionally there is now also a carbon roof that should destroy a few more pounds. All in all is the new RS 5 to 1,655 kilos. Still far from easy, but at least a step in the right direction. Finally, the is a new RS 5 over seven centimetres longer than the old one.

Hecklastigerer all-wheel drive

And even when the driving dynamics (where its predecessor was always somewhat clumsy) seems Audi some progress made. On the front axle, the new RS 5 Gets an advanced five-beam rear axle. Back there is now also a five-arm construction. It replaces the old trapezoidal multi-link suspension, which will benefit both the agility and comfort. The power goes as usual on all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. However, the force distributed now in favour of the rear axle. In the ratio of 40 to 60, to be exact. Who wants to get a sport differential on the rear axle for an additional fee also. All this should please all people looking for more hecklastigen fun. And Audi has made even one mixed, a squeaky-clean drift under the official images on the RS 5. Promising.

From June 2017

More options for the new RS 5 include huge carbon-ceramic brakes, the RS sports suspension plus with Adaptive dampers and a dynamic steering. Market launch is for audis M4 competitors in the June 2017. Prices start at 80,900 euros. (black & white)
