VW crafter: Never more sprinter

The sprinter is dead, long live the crafter! How please? The old VW crafter was a joint development with Mercedes and therefore a close relative of the sprinter. But in the new edition, the friendship stopped: A completely autonomous model of the transporter sprinter to win market shares the top dog. There are now new information before the premiere of the new crafter built in Poland at the commercial vehicle IAA in September 2016.

Three lengths, three roofs

The fact that the new VW crafter has a surprisingly good drag coefficient of 0.33 is already known. In the context of development, many customers were accompanied in their everyday lives. Their wishes wants VW have been appropriated and promises reliable engines, but also low wear and maintenance costs. Depending on the model, up to three vehicle lengths to choose from are at the crafter, with closed superstructure, there are also three different roof heights.

Diesel times four

Front-, rear - or all-wheel drive is selectable depending on the engine. In the crafter, the new "EA 288Nutz" works diesel in four different variants. It starts at 102 HP, followed by 122 to 140 HP. Top ranked a bi-turbo TDI with 177 HP. A manual and an automatic transmission is available on all units. The electromechanical steering is a premiere, several assistance systems on offer, about the crosswind correction or for manoeuvring trailers are optional. For more comfort, VW offers among other things, LED headlights and a low Wizard. (rh)
