Ring holder with massive technology

Geneva, 7 March 2017

Lamborghini proved that the new high-performance Huracán is blinking fast, already with a video recording of the new Nürburgring Rundenrekordes for series vehicles. Now, the high-performance at the motor show in Geneva (9 to 19 March 2017) was unveiled. On board: Extremely much technique, which is largely explained by the time.

Hybrid chassis as a base

A hybrid chassis made of aluminum and carbon fiber, on which sits an aluminum-body serves as the basis for the Huracán Performante. This is combined with the so-called "forged composite" a particularly light and stiff Lamborghini material and saves about 40 kilograms compared to a normal Huracán. The lightweight material can be found in structural components on front and rear spoiler, the hood and the rear bumper and the diffuser. Furthermore, the engine cover is now made of Plexiglas. The more sharply drawn front with larger splitter and the very high-mounted exhaust are also striking.

ALA on the front

It is particularly interesting, if one takes a look at the aerodynamics of high-performance. Active Aero system "ALA" which stands for "Concept Lamborghini Attiva" ensures a precise distribution of aerodynamic load and so either generates high output or low air resistance. Active valves that are controlled by a control called "LPI" are located in the front. The ALA system is switched off, the flaps remain too and the front spoiler ensures much downforce on the front axle to the detriment of air resistance. Open the flaps during acceleration and straight line when activated ALA and the air is diverted through internal channels and a special underbody, resulting in a reduced air resistance.

ALA at the rear

The ALA system works not only on the front axle. Also at the rear, there are active dampers. Two air ducts lead from the rear cover by the wing supports to the spoiler. The ALA fails, serves a traditional solid tail wing and generate 750 percent more output than a Huracán without spoiler. The ALA, respond the flaps on the position of the throttle valve and open up during acceleration the air resistance reduced. Also an Aero vectoring is possible: the air ducts in the rear wing are divided into two chambers separated from each other and can be controlled separately. Depending on the direction of the curves, the ALA on the left or right side of the wing is switched, causing more downforce on the inside wheel. Thus not only a higher pressure goes hand in hand, also reducing the steering angle is possible, which in turn leads to more stability.

V10 heart

We dedicate ourselves next to the heart of Huracán the motor. To use a free swinging V10 comes with 640 HP and 600 Newton metres. That beats the strongest V10 Lamborghini ever built in the high-performance. Thanks to a seven-speed dual-clutch and a permanent all-wheel drive, the 1.382 kg missile flies in just 2.9 seconds to 100. The high-performance does the 0-200-Sprint in just 8.9 seconds.

Chassis and tyres

Even with the suspension a lot has happened. Springs and stabilizers are 10 percent stiffer, the control arm bushings around 50 percent. The roll stiffness should have improved by 15 percent. At front and rear, a double wishbone system comes as standard with passive dampers used. An active version with magnetorheological dampers are available optionally. A newly calibrated steering controls 20-inch forged wheels on which specially for the high-performance developed Pirelli P zero Corsa tires are mounted.

Market launch and price

In the summer 2017 is the market launch for the Lamborghini Huracán Performante. With 232,000 euros the top model is whopping 31,000 euros more expensive than an ordinary Huracán. But always less than 600,000 euros cheaper than the Porsche 918 Spyder, which time of the high-performance on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife has recently cracked. (mf)
