Rare penalty with moving history

Everybody loves the Elfer: on the classic car show techno Classica in Essen (6 to 10 April 2016) will be the Porsche 911 in many variations and price quotes. One of them is not for sale but, although the fans are likely to lick the tongue after him: a restored 911 2.5 S / T with moving racing history. The classical music Department of the sports car manufacturer presented him.

Extremely rare sports gem

Only 24 copies of the Porsche 911 2.5 S / T emerged from late 1971 on the basis of the 911 2.4 S Coupé. They were intended for customer sports bets at tracks and in rallying. It had its price, more specifically immense 49.680 mark, a difference of 19,000 mark over the series model. In return, the two five penalty factory consistently has been modified in accordance with the international sporting code.

Successful at Le Mans

The 911 2.5 S issued now in Essen / T had ordered in November 1971 the US racer Mike Keyser and it is set in numerous races in his home country, but also in the FIM World Endurance Championship. The famous Porsche factory rider Jürgen Barth was part of the game. He competed with Keyser in the season 1972 including the Targa Florio and the 1,000 kilometer race at the Nürburgring. The 24 hours of Le Mans, where the Swiss Sylvain, the team added guarantee were highlights. Out jumped an amazing 13th place overall in addition to a class victory.

From scrap to glory

Many decades later, the Keyser-911 was rediscovered by a collector in the United States. The vehicle was in a desolate condition and was taken to the restoration to Stuttgart to "Porsche Classic". Experts discovered a reconstruction on the later G model, an improperly repaired accident damage was added. The grate well raged uncontrollably in particular penalty. So not enough: The wagon served apparently over the years as a children's playground, which the roof was irreparably deformed. But Porsche classic took on, also to the own expertise proved to be the challenge. Finally the old Porsche trend 911 to lavish restoration, even if they are not as rare as the former racing cars.

Preserved for eternity

After extensive sheet metal work, the body of the 911 2.5 S / T received cathodic dip painting for best rust protection. For this purpose it was specially recorded in the circuit the current Porsche production. This was followed by the painting in the original color "Pale yellow 117". The finished craft is how expensive, secret of the owner. Just for comparison: the normal 911 S model years 1971 to 1973 is listed in the State 1 with 200,000 euros. (rh)
