Originally the M of the M GmbH for motor sport is. No wonder that the fast BMW subsidiary feels obliged to this idea today. Now, man is the latest project, the M4 GT4. He replaces the M3 GT4 popular with private teams.

Cheaper in the race

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt reveals the purpose behind the M4 GT4: "the GT4 category is presently experiencing a boom. It offers affordable Motorsport and thus appeals to a wide audience." As the name implies, GT4 cars in terms of size and performance under the cars of the GT3 class rank. The latter based R8 or the BMW M6 on Super sports cars such as the Mercedes-AMG GT, Audi. This ensures significantly higher costs per season than in the GT4 class.

The M4 GT4 in the BMW customer sport program to bridge the gap in addition between the M6 GT3 and the M235i racing. End of 2016 the first test stakes start, so the teams season 2018 have a sophisticated vehicle. The entire drivetrain including electronics is acquired by the BMW Coupé M4. The carbon bonnet comes from the M4 GTS, and doors made of carbon fiber, a special front splitter and rear wing, as well as a racing exhaust system. Solutions for the usage, which are derived from the BMW M6 GT3 come at the seat, the brakes and the pedal box. The first vehicles of the M4 GT4 will be delivered in the second half of the year 2017.
