The Formula 1, once the " king class " of motorsport, for some years now ekes out an existence as boring, influenced only by money racing series in the afternoon program of RTL. In beautiful regularity, the pension overripe " Zampano " Bernie Ecclestone and the team bosses about rules, funds and television contracts arguing. The overwhelming dominance of the Mercedes team makes the race more exciting not. We have looked at the known changes in 2016 once and unfortunately have to say: From Bad to Worse!
Five different tire compounds
Since 2011, the Italian Pirelli as sole supplier supplies the Formula 1. The hallmark of the tires: the different colored logos on the flank. So are the fans can easily recognize on the TV screen, which tire compound is just raised. The preprogrammed confusion will still expand in 2016 when the now fifth tire compound is introduced into F1. The new ultra soft mixture gets a purple label on the tire sidewall. We accept the new tires as an opportunity to explain the rules of Formula 1 tires detail.
Pirelli and FIA decide on tires
For the tires, the race weekend starts several weeks before it comes out on the track. The motorsport world authority FIA defines together with Pirelli, which three of the five mixtures may be used in the respective race weekend. The teams then choose in a certain time window, as they put together their ten sets of tires per vehicle. The decision must be notified to the FIA, which in turn sends an order to Pirelli. The respective tire choice remains up to two weeks before the race a secret. In addition to the ten self-imposed sentences shall Pirelli fixed two mandatory sentences, which are provided for the race. At least one set of which must be driven mandatory. Another set of the softest mixture for that weekend must be canceled for the third part of qualifying. Overall, the team therefore 13 sets of tires per vehicle are available.
Tire recycling
To put the whole confusion, secrecy and lack of independence, the Crown, Pirelli prescribes the following return periods for the tires: a sentence after 40 minutes of the first free practice sessions, a set afterwards. A sentence after the second free practice and a set after the third free practice session. The pre-determined racing sets may not be moved or returned yet driven the Quali - set before the third qualifying in training. Look through yet? It gets even better: If this sentence then, however, used in the third qualifying, it must be returned for it and the cars start the race with the tires on which they are driven in the second qualifying the fastest time. All that did not make it into the third qualifying session, may use the set of tires, which then no longer came into use in the third qualifying in the race.
