ADAC: Premium just a few electric vehicles are also profitable
Munich, April 27, 2016
Now it's official: buyers of electric cars will get a bonus of 4,000 euros, 3,000 euros provided for plug in hybrid vehicles. The promotion was presented at today's Wednesday morning (April 27) by Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD), Federal Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) and Federal Minister of transportation Alexander Dobrindt (CSU).
Not yet in dry cloths
The premium is decided by the Cabinet according to press release of the Federal Government in May. But after that the Bundestag must agree, and as the reward is highly controversial: there is strong opposition from the Union group as the "Handelsblatt" reports. There could be at least still changes. It is currently planned to award the premium as the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) writes on the"first come, first served". That is: first come, first served basis and is for 400,000 sponsored cars. Luxury models to remain sidelined according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Therefore, only vehicles are subsidized to a list price of 60,000 euros. The Federal Government and auto manufacturers share the cost of 1.2 million equally. Daimler, VW and BMW had already consented.
Also the charging infrastructure is funded
In addition to the 600,000 euros, which will pay the Federal Government for the premium, the State intends to promote also the charging infrastructure with 300 million euros, according to the press release of the Federal Government. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that should do it for 15,000 new charging stations. Also a tax advantage there: who keeps an electric car as a company car and recharges it at the expense of the company, must this not as cash benefit taxed. The billion euros, which the Federal Government wants to spend, is made by 100 million for company cars full of ministries and authorities. You should reach a 20 percent electric car share according to FAZ starting in 2017.
Planned 500,000 electric cars
Currently, about 50,000 electric cars on German roads go. With the premium it intends to increase the value to 500,000. From the original target of one million electric cars by the year 2020, the Federal Government has adopted so apparently.
ADAC: When electric cars you pay on it
Doubts are attached to the achievement of the goal. Also a new cost comparison of the ADAC Automobile Club suggests this. Then, just a few electric cars are profitable even with promotion. Twelve electric models have been scrutinized. Only two of them go cheaper than comparable diesel or gasoline cars: Mercedes B 250 e and the KIA soul EV. All other electric cars on it pays the consumer between four and ten cents per kilometre. Reason is the still higher purchase price. This comes, that electric cars because of their short range are rather short-haul cars so the current cost advantage does not significantly affect. (sl)
