910 hp, but not a super athlete

Paris, October 2, 2014

" Lamborghini always delivers the unexpected ," said Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the launch of the Asterion LPI 910-4. And he is right: The car has 910 horsepower, but should not be a super athlete. It is flat as a pancake, but Lamborghini calls it suitable for everyday use. The amazing sports car study can be seen at the Paris Motor Show ( October 4 to 19 2014).

610 - PS - sucker from the Huracán

The plug-in hybrid drive of Asterion combines a 5.2-liter V10 engine with three electric motors. Here, the normally aspirated V10 engine from the Huracán is known. It generates 610 hp and a maximum torque of 560 Newton meters. As with the normal Lambo - athletes it is installed as a longitudinal mid-engine. Behind it sits a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the central tunnel, in which the transmission operates normally, the lithium ion battery is positioned. The architecture also includes an electric motor with the functions of an integrated starter - generator ( ISG ), which is placed between the V10 engine and dual clutch transmission. Then there are two more electric motors on the front axle, which are supplied by the ISG with energy. They have a torque vectoring function.

300 hp from three electric motors

In the combination of the V10 and the three electric motors, the additional 220 kilowatts or 300 horsepower deliver results in the mentioned system output of 910 hp. Thus, the acceleration takes to 100 km / h just 3.0 seconds. The top speed is 320 km / h in pure electric mode, the Lambo study reached 125 km / h. More important for the urban mobility is the pure electric range of 50 kilometers. How to charge the battery of the plug-in system, Lamborghini reveals not.

Monocoque carbon

For CO2 reduction in the mark, the weight reduction is as important as the electrification. So Lamborghini is proud that the entire hybrid technology weighs just 250 kilograms. In addition, the Asterion has a carbon fiber monocoque. The result of the austerity measures are CO2 emissions of 98 grams per kilometer and a fuel consumption of 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers. With plug-in hybrids, however, the standard consumption has even less significance than in normal cars. The results from the fact that such a vehicle consumes no fuel, if it is operated solely in electric mode.

Hybrid propulsion and lightweight design

The topics of hybrid drive, and lightweight pull also by the design of the vehicle. Thus, the transparent engine cover at the rear of three hexagonal glass surfaces, which adjust depending on the selected driving mode. The steering wheel is equipped with three buttons with which the driver can select the mode: Zero for the pure electric drive, I for " Ibrido " ( hybrid ) and T for " Termico ", ie pure combustion drive. A removable tablet is used for the control of air conditioning, navigation and infotainment. The two seats are in favor of practicality positioned higher than in the normal Lambos. Generally, the car is meant to be used for everyday travel as comfortable and for the racetrack, the manufacturer. Lamborghini does not expect the car interestingly, the super sports car, but referred to him as " Hyper Cruiser ".

A hybrid type between man and bull

The intermediate position is reflected by the name. Janus would have been for an obvious choice, but Asterion might fit even better. For this is the original name of the Minotaur, the half man, half bull was yes. So Lamborghini maintains its tradition of using names from the world of bulls. The additional designation LPI 910-4 contains the well-known abbreviation LP for " posterior longitudinal ", reminiscent of the longitudinal installation of the engine in the rear. I stands for " Ibrido " ( hybrid ), 910 for the system performance and 4 for the four-wheel drive . ( sl )
