This is the new B5 bi-turbo

It seems that die-hard BMW fans must be patient anything, to get the benefit of the next M5. I'm glad that there's Alpina. The small manufacturer from Buchloe now brings a serious M5 opponent on the market before the M GmbH presented their product at all: the B5 bi-turbo.

4.4-liter V8 in the bi-turbo

The new B5 bi-turbo based on the latest generation of the BMW 5 series. Under the hood, a 4.4-liter V8 with 608 HP and 800 nm of torque provides propulsion. The two turbochargers sit in the "hot V" of the engine and properly maintained with 1.4 bar boost pressure on your toes. Thanks to a four-wheel drive on the BMW xDrive system, it goes in just 3.5 seconds from standstill to 100 of the fastest Alpina of ever. Deadline is at 330 km/h. The acceleration values are also on the eight-speed automatic transmission developed by Alpina together with ZF. Optionally there is a mechanical rear axle lock by Turner.

Suspension and brakes

Running factory Alpina relies on electrically adjustable dampers, the touring version, there is an air suspension on the rear axle. Bite Alpina blue painted Brembo four-piston calipers on the front axle on 395er disks. There are also optional drilled rotors with sports brake pads for performance-oriented driver. These are to counteract a possible fading in sporty gait. A with steering rear axle ensures a sporty turning circle even in tight curves. 20-inch forged wheels fill out the massive wheel flares.

Tasteful exterior

The exterior of the B5 bi-turbo is typical Alpina: sporty, chic and restrained. Only the big air intakes at the front as well as front and rear spoiler point to the impressive engine output. At the rear, a sports exhaust system from stainless steel by two double tailpipes in the free sounds. Two exclusive paint finishes are available for the B5: Alpina Blau metallic and metallic Alpina GrĂ¼n.

Market launch and prices

The Interior is tastefully matched as the exterior without being obtrusive. Comfort seats with leather and a sports steering wheel with blue-green stitching invite to relaxed Highway touring or sporty curves hunts. The infotainment system from BMW 5 series. The Alpina B5 bi-turbo is available now and 112,000 euros as a sedan. Call 115.300 euro for the touring version. The market launch is planned for September 2017. (mf)
